Robert Cook

Artist

From an early age Robert loved to draw and was fascinated by the natural word. His first success as a budding artist was at the age of ten, when on a family holiday at Butlins his father encouraged him to enter their drawing contest. To his surprise and delight Robert won first prize.  He was now hooked on art.

At college Robert studied Scientific & Natural History Illustration and after graduating in 1985 worked as a freelance illustrator. During which time he illustrated numerous non-fiction publications and illustrated packaging for major supermarket foodstuffs.  As well as being an accomplished illustrator, Robert has many years experience lecturing in Scientific & Natural History Illustration to honours degree level. He now pursues his interest in nature and the environment through painting and drawing.

Through his work Robert aims to convey fleeting intimate moments in nature, from the fading light of a warm summer evening on a pebble beach, to the dark gloomy recesses of an overhanging riverbank in autumn. Showing subjects in their natural habitat, spending many hours attempting to gain an insight into their perception of the world and communicate this in his work.
